The human design gates of Libra season

Libra is symbolized by the scales of justice.

Conflict alchemist. Behind-the-scenes power broker. Tactical charmer.

We've arrived halfway around the zodiac to Libra, the sign of beauty, balance, harmony, and partnership. As the second Venus-ruled sign, Libra applies the Venusian principles of love and beauty to relationships, and its default method for navigating the world is through collaborating with others.

Even so, Libra often finds itself in the middle of conflict (the realm of Aries, its opposite sign), trying to bring equilibrium to its surroundings.

As a Libra Sun, I've always hated conflict. Whenever I'm experiencing a conflict with someone, I truly feel it in the pit of my stomach, and it's all I can think about. At the same time, my Aries and Scorpio placements don't want peace; they want to win and be right. Ultimately, my Libra Sun craves peace and harmony, but at what cost? And so it goes, my eternal balancing act with myself and with others.

On a lighter note, Libra delights in culture and refinement and has no interest in getting its hands dirty. In fact, Libra's instinct for color, symmetry, and style often shows up in areas such as art, music, design, and/or fashion.

Libra is also a natural at shining a spotlight on others, especially in one-on-one situations, and using its deft social skills and innate sense of justice to support others in trying to get a fair outcome. These skills lend themselves to careers in law, counseling, consulting, advocacy, and mediation.

However, Libra’s attunement to others and its ability to see all sides of an issue or situation can also make it indecisive.

Libra thrives in careers that emphasize beauty and harmony, provide meaningful collaboration with people they enjoy, and foster a sense of being valued and appreciated.

On the flip side, Libra struggles in careers that are marked by conflict, chaos, negativity, or harshness.

Even if your Sun is not in Libra, if you have Libra placements (especially your Ascendant or Midheaven or your Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars), you may find yourself resonating with these Libra needs in your work.

During Libra season, the Sun is moving through the following human design gates:

  • Gate 46 (Resoluteness) in the Identity Center: a natural determination and the ability to be in the right place at the right time when you love your body and surrender to the flow of your life; the key is to let go of expectations when you enter into experiences.

  • Gate 18 (Upgrade) in the Spleen Center – a natural critic who can sense what can be improved or replaced; this energy is meant to be directed at improving large-scale systems in order to increase joy and vitality in the collective; it's not meant to be used for finding faults in yourself or in other individuals; the fear of authority, or the fear of challenging authority, can be found here.

  • Gate 48 (Depth) in the Spleen Center - having a natural wisdom you're not aware of until someone draws it out of you and having the depth to provide an actual solution to a problem; the fear of inadequacy, in particular of not knowing enough, can be found here.

  • Gate 57 (Intuition) in the Spleen Center - this is the most intuitive energy in the chart; you may be sensitive to vibration and acoustics, especially in your right ear, but you may also have selective hearing (meaning you're not designed to be influenced by other people); the fear of the future or of the unknown can be found here.

  • Gate 32 (Continuity) in the Spleen Center – the ability to sense whether something can be successful; a natural tendency to be conservative with risks and resources and to wait and see whether changes in the collective will stand the test of time and be worth adopting; the fear of failure can be found here.

  • Gate 50 (Values) in the Spleen Center – a natural guardian or challenger of values within a family, group, business, community and/or the collective; can intuitively sense who and what deserves caring; the fear of responsibility, or the fear of letting others down, can be found here.

Note that both Gate 46 and Gate 50 are cusp gates. Gate 46 begins in Virgo and moves into Libra while Gate 50 begins in Libra and moves into Scorpio.

Are any of these gates defined (colored in) in your bodygraph? If so, you have consistent access to the energy of the defined gate(s), and you are impacting others with this energy through your very presence.

If these gates are open or undefined (white) in your bodygraph, then your experience of these gates is more fluid. You are temporarily taking in and amplifying the energy of any open or undefined gates through your interactions with other people and/or through planetary transits that activate these gates for you.

Whatever is white in our bodygraph, whether it is a gate, channel, or energy center, is a potential area of growth and wisdom for us as we gain different perspectives on that energy throughout our life.

As a reminder, we each have all of the chart; what varies is our experience of the chart based on our specific placements.
