The human design gates of taurus season

Bull standing in a field

Taurus is symbolized by the bull.

With Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, as its ruler, Taurus has a deep appreciation for beauty, nature, and sensual pleasures.  (In fact, I think of Taurus and Cancer as the great foodies of the zodiac.)  As a springtime sign in the northern hemisphere, it’s the most optimistic of the three Earth signs (the other two being analytical Virgo and serious-minded Capricorn).

Unlike excitable, impulsive Aries, Taurus is deliberate, practical, and prioritizes security, especially material security; this sign feels safe when it has a full fridge, a healthy bank account, and all the bills timely paid.

Whatever Taurus does has to be consistent with its personal values and self-worth, and it must feel valued in return for its hard work (preferably, in appropriate compensation). It’s loyal and reliable, and it thrives with simplicity and a stable routine.

Taurus feels most fulfilled when it’s building something that will stand the test of time. It likes to take its time with things and hates to be rushed.  However, once Taurus sets its mind to doing something, nothing and no one can stop it.  As a fixed sign, it has tremendous staying power and perseverance (just like its fixed-sign peers of Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius).

Taurus feels most fulfilled when it’s building something that will have a strong foundation. It likes to take its time with things and hates to be rushed.  However, once Taurus sets its mind to doing something, watch out!   Nothing and no one can stop it.  As a fixed sign, it has tremendous staying power and perseverance (just like its fixed-sign peers of Scorpio, Leo, and Aquarius).

In career, Taurus is often drawn to handling money, working with the earth (e.g., through farming or floral arrangements) or the body (e.g., through massage or other forms of somatic healing), and venturing into fields that involve beauty and artistry (e.g., singing, sculpture, carpentry, and architecture).

Because of its preference for stability, Taurus is not well-suited to a job that is constantly changing, and it can run the risk of staying too long in a job that is no longer fulfilling or rewarding.

Even if your Sun is not in Taurus, if you have Taurus placements (especially your Ascendant or Midheaven or your Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars), you may find yourself resonating with these Taurus needs in your work.

Despite its relatively straight-forward characteristics, Taurus is actually a bit of a mystery to me, probably because this is where my Chiron is and because I have four planets in the opposing sign of Scorpio.  Given the fact that I’ll be experiencing my Chiron return in a few years, I know I’ll be exploring the archetype of Taurus more deeply in the future.

During Taurus season, the sun is moving through the following human design gates:

  • Gate 3 (Order) in the Sacral Center - You have a gift for bringing order and structure to chaos; because your energy works on an on/off pulse, it benefits you to wait for both right timing and for the right structures to be in place so that lasting change can occur.

  • Gate 27 (Nourishment) in the Sacral Center - You are a deeply compassionate person who takes care of and protects others, especially the most vulnerable; the lesson for you is to care without over-caring at the expense of your well-being.

  • Gate 24 (Insight) in the Ajna - Your mind tends to go over things again and again in an attempt to rationalize them; this is a mental process of constant rewind and review with sudden bursts of insight that drop in.

  • Gate 2 (Vision) in the Identity Center – You are a natural visionary who can give direction to others toward the resources they need to support their creative endeavors; by aligning with your vision for yourself, you empower and inspire others to follow their own sense of direction.

  • Gate 23 (Simplicity) in the Throat Center - With your unique and transformative insights, you have a gift for initiating others into new ways of thinking. In order for your genius to be recognized, it’s important for you to communicate what you truly know in simple, clear terms to the right people and at the right time.

  • Gate 8 (Attention) in the Throat Center - You have a gift for drawing people’s attention to something new and innovative, whether it is your own individual lifestyle, direction or creations or the creativity of others; this works best when you are first recognized and invited to share.

Note that both Gate 3 and Gate 8 are cusp gates. Gate 3 begins in Aries and moves into Taurus while Gate 8 begins in Taurus and moves into Gemini.

Are any of these gates defined (colored in) in your bodygraph?  If so, you have consistent access to the energy of the defined gate(s), and you are impacting others with this energy through your very presence.

If these gates are open or undefined (white) in your bodygraph, then your experience of these gates is more fluid. You are temporarily taking in and amplifying the energy of any open or undefined gates through your interactions with other people and/or through planetary transits that activate these gates for you.

Whatever is white in our bodygraph, whether it is a gate, channel, or energy center, is a potential area of growth and wisdom for us as we gain different perspectives on that energy throughout our life.

As a reminder, we each have all of the chart; what varies is our experience of the chart based on our specific placements.
